Shaker Heights 
became an incorporated village, in Ohio, in 1912 on land that was formally owned by the "Shakers". The village of Shaker Heights became reached the status of city sometime in the 1930's. In the 2000 census it was stated that Shaker Heights had grown to a population of about 30,000.
There is a distinct blend of cultural and racial diversity to find within the city. Many of the thousands of homes found in Shaker Heights are found on the National Register of Historic Places featuring distinguished homes with impressive architecture. These homes vary from grand estates
